My research topic is on Genie the Wild Child. Genie was discovered at around
age 15 and was never taught to speak. Her case presented Linguistic researchers with a
rare opportunity to test the critical period theory and see if a language can be taught
fluently to someone who wasn’t taught language growing up. Some information I know
about Genie is that she was discovered after over a decade of abuse, neglect, and
basically total isolation from the world. I also know that the Critical period theory is a
theory that says the critical age for acquiring a language fluently is somewhere between
5- puberty. My research paper will go deep in depth of the story of Genie from start to
finish. The format I plan to use to describe this research will be a 10 page analytic paper.
It will go into detail on how the critical period theory is true because genie was never
able to learn language properly.
