Part 1
Thesis statement
The U.S military has involved itself in several peace mediations all across the world. It
has been a crucial figure in enhancing peace in countries such as Syria and Iraq which have been
experiencing wars and conflicts for a long time.
Part 2
Policemen of the World
The U.S under the leadership of President Barack Obama launched attacks against the
ISIS in Syria through bombing where the military managed to bomb two critical players in the
Syrian war that President Bashar Assad’s army and the Islamic state. The U.S said that the main
aim of the attacks was to defeat ISIS and engage in a negotiated political talk with Asad, but it
bore no fruits. Also, under Obama, the U.S involved itself in assessing the attacks the Islamic
State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the threats that the militant group had planned to launch
in the country. The motive of the attack can be seen as a result of the American policy of
combating terrorism in the world (Dobbins, 2003). Attacks in Iraq are more or less similar to the
ones in Afghanistan where the goal was to remove al-Qaeda.
Interests in economic issues all around the world have seen the U.S raise to being the
world superpower. That has made the nation involve itself in some notable events across the
globe. Some of the occasions include the Spanish-American war which resulted in the U.S being
able to expand its influence in Latin America and the Caribbean by eliminating Spain’s presence.
The World War II has also contributed significantly to the rise in power. The U.S did not
participate in the war which left many of Great Britain countries and Germany exhausted. After

the Cold war, the U.S still influenced places like the Central Europe which profoundly boosted it
in being a superpower.
The title “the world policemen” is not just a tag, it came as a result of the U.S
involvement in many instances all around the world. Some of the cases include the interventions
in Lebanon. The Muslims had at it that the relations between them and the western nations
specifically the United States be denounced by the president who was a Christian (Butler, 2003).
That was not done which made them plan a coup where the U.S engaged itself. The Korean war
where North Korea invaded South Korea. North Korea was being backed by China and the
Soviet Union which made the U.S commit itself. It also took policing in the Bangladesh partition
war in 1975 where it sided with the Pakistan. The U.S also involved itself in the interventions in
Haiti.
Some of the reasons that made the U.S engage itself in the policing include; to support
countries like the South Korea which were left out by the unions like the Soviet Union. To
maintain the western reputation and also help the marginalized movements like the Christians in
Lebanon. To enhance peace through sending of some of its troops to support governments that
were almost defeated by militia groups (Hermann & Kegley Jr, 1998). To combat terrorism by
destroying militia bases like in Afghanistan where it tried removing the al-Qaeda. That was as a
result of complying with the policy it had set of dealing with the organizations across the world.
The U.S as said earlier, has also done that for many reasons such as economic interests which
they have developed from within. Their engagement in the wars has benefited the states
economically which explains the reason for their continued involvement.
