Introduction to Sociology course.
Civil Rights Movement
Civilians who eventually became leaders from 1955 to 1968 created the Civil Rights
Movement. This group of people had a significant role in many benefits and laws that we have in
place today. The changes that these leaders made possible were substantial in the well being of
our society, not just freedom of all races and religions but the ability to live and work without
being pointed or left out. We should be grateful that these people decided to speak up and defend
our rights as human beings in the United States of America.
I chose this movement because it reflects my firm conviction of the importance that
every person has as an essential part of society. The Civil Right Movement set the freedom and
liberty of expressing our ideas without being punished or reprehended for doing so not
depending on race or religion. The movement also linked the racial justice with the goal of
economic justice. Many leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Philip Randolph, and Bayard Rustin
were able to publicly expressed and pushed in the historical march in Washing in 1963. Many other
movements had a positive outcome due to their brave actions.
I hope to learn more about this movement because it was a milestone in the history of this
country. I would like to learn how the changes seen on the opposite side of society were? What benefits
did it have in schools, living cots? How did this movement help to create jobs and which kind of jobs?
Did the movement help create different types of social activities? Which ones? Was the campaign
successful in the eyes of the leaders? How successful? What else would they want to implement today? I
believe there is a lot I can learn in regards to this movement and the impact that it had in the society.
