Part 1: BRM/353 – PRODUCT AND BRAND MANAGEMENT
Question # 1 Chapter 8: How do you measure rate of sale? How might you measure the
effectiveness of your advertising message? How does your organization determine who is buying its
products? How does a vendor either support or subvert your product’s performance?
Question # 2 Chapter 9: What are some specific merchandising techniques you might use to
improve a product’s performance? How might you leverage a service product to enhance the
performance of a tangible product? What effect does price promotion have on a consumer’s brand
choice? What are some examples of jingles or slogans that have positively affected a brand?
Question # 3 Chapter 9: Watch the Frontline video entitled “Generation Like”. Do you believe that
the treatment of media as depicted in the video is where marketing will be going in the future? How
can you apply your brand to this new type of media? The link is www.frontline.org.
Question # 4 Chapter 8: Describe Return of marketing investment (ROMI). Mention
its effects and any advantages or disadvantages of ROMI. Give examples.
Part 2: BIS/320 Business Information Systems
Question # 1 chapter 4: One ethical dilemma that you may not think companies face is the setting
up of “honeypots”. Honeypots are used by organizations to assist them in stopping or tracking
computer intrusion into their networks. Poore (2003) questions the ethical dilemma of using
honeypots; does it amount to a form entrapment? Honeypots can be alluring to a potential network
computer hacker much the same way an open cash register can be alluring to a thief.
What do you think is it OK for organizations to setup “ecommerce or network web” to capture
potential hackers or is this entrapment if the trap is too alluring? Has anyone had a similar
issue in your organization?
Question # 2 Chapter 8 Securing Information Systems
Suppose you lose your company laptop at an airport. What should you do? Does it matter what data
is stored on your disk drive? If the computer contained sensitive or proprietary data, are you
necessarily in trouble? What methods should you have used to address information security needs
in this situation?
Question # 3 Foundation of IT Security
Many of you previously have noted how mobile technology can assist us as a convenience or a life
saver. Are you also aware that since 2005, as a result of Federal Communications Commission
E911 rule required all cell phone carriers to have a GPS enabled cell phone for the purposes of
locating a cell phone owner in a 911 emergency? GPS can offer mobile device users more features
beyond location in an emergency, but it does raise ethical issues.
To the group, are we comfortable with this level technology being used for various reasons, it
can start out off “as an emergency” then becomes urgent, then business as usual. Do you
favor it, but only with strict controls on this technology? See the article below.
