For stakeholder purposes, this group of individuals should be called
consumers. Stakeholders take part in business relations, so the professional term of
patients on the business side should be called consumers. Consumers are those who
may or may not choose to seek care there in the future (Butcher, 2015). As a
stakeholder, consumers can dictate where they receive care, which ultimately
dictates the finances and incoming revenue of a healthcare organization. Consumers
now have the ability to shop around, and choose their healthcare which play a vital
role in the decision-making process of healthcare leadership.
To begin with, consumers expect a certain level of service and an ease-ofaccess experience that numerous conventional health care establishments currently
are not prepared to deliver. On the other hand, consumers anticipate to have access
to information, be able to comprehend information specified and use that
information to make decisions about the future of their healthcare. At the same time,
healthcare consumers are able to ?shop? around for the better-quality healthcare,
compare providers, and choose not to ?shop? a certain healthcare system again.
Consumers can be classified also as customers due this scenario.
In the current and future healthcare market, this learner suggests that
consumer be the appropriate term. The idea of healthcare as an institution is fading

consumers put into perspective the demands of the current healthcare trends, and
removes the sterile traditional term patient. Using the term consumer allows the

healthcare team, and to not feel inferior to physicians or those delivering healthcare.
The term consumer normalizes each individual, and encourages consumers to
become who more informed, engaged, discerning, and value consciousness.
