As a current student who is pursuing a career in Psychology it is first important to reflect on my
personal wellness, health goals, and awareness. When reflecting on all these important things I
believe it makes me recognize and relate to what people coming to me will feel.
To first start off I would like to reflect on my personal wellness, most people define personal
wellness as being free of any illness but, I believe personal wellness is also about the wellness of
physical and mental health. Reflecting on mine, I am a person who bottles up her feelings. For
the past two years, I have found myself losing a lot of weight and doctors cannot see the issue in
my wellness relating to me losing weight. I have come to realize the stress I bottle up has caused
me to lose appetite or what some doctors think is happening is that in some people the stress
hormones basically burn whatever I eat and my body doesn?t benefit from whatever I eat.
Therefore, because of my mental health I have caused my body to go in a physical position. I
have also become careless about my wellness and more focused on other factors in my life which
caused a lot of physical changes in me beside my weight loss, and one of them is grey hair,
which is a leading cause of stress.
Reflecting on my personal wellness and being aware of the effects of things to my wellness is
where my health goals come. My health goals is of course to be healthy, how? First and more
importantly is to not have anemia because I haven?t had a repeating year where I was not anemic.
Therefore, I need to eat more, organized, and healthy meals. Another health goal is to gain
healthy weight and lose any unhealthy fat in my body even though I?m skinny I believe the
effects of that is still greater than I imagine. Finally, I want to focus on making a healthier
lifestyle a habit and not just a short-term goal.
I am aware that the root of all my health problems is my emotional health, as mentioned I tend to
bottle things up which leads to overthinking and most importantly health issues. I am aware that
I have a high vulnerability to stress after doing a self-assessment, and I am also aware that I am
absolutely stress after doing another stress self-assessment. That caused me to think about how it
is the root of my health problems because of my stress I overthink, my overthinking lead me to
have grey hair, sleep disorders, and health issues.
A small number of my family has thyroid problems and the doctors could not determine that it is
an emotional issue or it runs in the family?s genes, either way I could easily prone to getting a
thyroid problem because my mom has been diagnosed with thyroid disease because of stress.
In conclusion, reflecting on my personal wellness, health goals, and awareness helps me to also
relate to what is being taught in this and how it is important to be aware of my stress and finding
ways to cope and decrease my bad habits of overthinking and improving my overall health.
