Write two Journal Responses. I need you to choose two quotes from the chapter 45-51 and use each quote to write down a four-steps Journal Response.Journal Response Directions:Write the quote you are responding to in quotation marks.Be sure you include a good portion of the section to which you are going to respond. You must include the page number where the quote is found at the end of the quote.Summarize the reading’s main idea.Discuss the quote’s importance in the reading selection.Explain why it means something.Does it tell more about a character, setting, theme, plot, problem, or author’s point of view?Relate the quote to something that happened to you or that you know about, or relate it to a film, play, story, or article you read.Maybe the messages or themes are similar and they discuss the same ideas but do it in different ways.Maybe the writing style is the same as another author’s style and you will then explain how the styles are similar.Using critical thinking skills, describe your feelings or attitude (thoughts) about what you have read. For example, what conclusion do you make about what you have read? Do you agree with the writer’s point of view or attitude about a topic? How did this quote taken from reading selection make you feel?2. Format for completing the journal responses
Journal Entry #1
1. “Everywhere rooms lay open. Doors and windows gaped into emptiness. Everything
was free for anyone, belonging to nobody. It was simply a matter of helping oneself. An
open tomb.” Schindler’s List, p. 15.
2. After Eli and his family were driven into the Jewish ghetto, the Jews were herded up and
shipped off to what they thought were brick factories. At this point many of the people have
been sent away. All the people were allowed to take is what they could carry. When the author
describes the houses as open tombs, he gives a clue to the fate of the owners. Their lives have
been snatched away with no time to prepare.
3. I remember seeing the ruins of a Siberian village on TV. It, too, was an abandoned, sad
place. All the toys were left out with the hope of little children returning to play their
games, plates of food were left on the tables, and beds were not made.
4. The things left behind tell tales of the ones who flee in haste. They are the ghosts
haunting the houses. Some people say things don’t matter, but sometimes, I think, they
are only the reminder, the silent cry, begging for violence to end. I feel anger about what makes
families so afraid that they must flee very quickly and leave their possessions
behind.
