Why am I here?
Ever since I was a young boy I have thought about my future and envisioned what it
would be like. All I thought about was the ways that I could get a better education. I also thought
about ways That I could become a better person. My dream was to travel somewhere and
become someone great. My dad promised me, if I got great grades and graduated from high
school, I would go somewhere I dreamed of going. This was the most important task of my life
at the time. So, I worked hard every day in school and tried my best in everything.
As soon as I graduated high school with high grades my dad completed his end of the
deal. I got home with my grades and he had the tickets in his hand. It was a really impressing
moment and my mom was crying because it was almost time for me to leave. Those tickets were
for the United States. The amount of happiness in my heart at that time no one could ever
imagine. My dream to come to America was very important, and I wanted to make sure that I
had a great future with the best education I could get. In my country, we were thought from when
we were young children if you got a good education, you can come back home to Saudi Arabia
and have a great job waiting for you.
I am currently in the United States studying every day to achieve my dreams of returning
home and receiving a job in my country. However, I know deep down in my heart that this is not
the only reason as to why I am here. I would be lying if I said it is, America and Saudi Arabia
shares a whole lot of different ways of doing things. Both cultures are way different and it is
quite interesting to know two sides of the world that reside in the opposite sides. It literally opens
your eyes into the world like a newborn baby. I have been here since 2013 and I have learned a
lot and I believe that there is a lot more to learn. This is what keeps me from quitting when
school has gotten hard for me to handle. Staying in a foreign country with no family and no
support is also hard for me as well.
In the United States, children become independent at the age of eighteen. I find that quite
alarming, considering the fact that the kids in my country usually stay with their parents until
they reach the age of thirty. Sometimes the kids even have their wife living with them at home
with their family as well. I love to earn. I am open to learning new things, especially the ways
that they do things in America. It surprises me that a lot of people are not open to learning new
things as well. I honestly feel if a person does not try to get to know a whole lot more than what
is presented in front of them they would never actually learn. This to me is what makes a lot of
people ignorant. But in the end, it all depends on how the person wants to steer his or her life.
I am a person that loves to be around family at all times. After I graduate Methodist and I
have finished my education I would return home so that I can be with my family. I envision
myself coming back to the United States and visiting again. However, I would rather come back
when I have gotten married and have my children. I want them to see all that I have seen and
learn all that I have learned when I was a young man eager to learn.
