RECYCLING PROJECT

Project summary
The idea of the project at hand came up as a result of increasing pollution in urban areas.
From the point of research done by many people in the field of environment conservation, there
is need to install proper systems of disposing garbage (Fullerton, & Kinnaman, 1995). The cost
of disposing of garbage seems to be expensive considering some factors like the income level of
many people living in urban areas. It is right to say that almost half the population living in urban
areas around the world earns less than a dollar on a daily basis.
Considering that the cost of disposing garbage ranges between 3 to 5 dollars on a weekly
basis it becomes difficult for them to afford. Therefore, many will opt to throw the garbage all
over. Some areas where garbage is thrown become inhabitable as it smells foul. There are other
materials thrown as garbage such as recyclable materials that don’t degrade hence polluting the
environment. The pollution causes several issues to arise. There is increased theft due to lousy
smell that leaves someplace not conducive to business making them hideouts for thugs. Those
interested in real estate development claim that it is risky to invest in such areas since the
environment is unwelcoming. The security of the area deteriorates due to a huge number of street
children flocking the area searching for food (Kinnaman, & Fullerton, 2000).
Our project aims at tackling these issues by creating a conducive environment. The
recycling project will consider recycling all recyclable materials like polythene products that will
help in reducing water and land pollution. It will also consider nonrecyclable recycling waste in
the environment. The first step of the company is to reduce the pollution effects in alreadypolluted areas through the use of a realistic garbage disposal system. The project will be owned
by homeowners, agents, cleaners and other interested parties.
Project goals
RECYCLING PROJECT
3
The goals of the project include encouraging individuals to settle in such places, generate
revenue through creating recycling agencies and lessening the burden of collecting garbage in
such areas.
Project objectives
•
To encourage staying by creating a better environment
•
To clean the environment by recycling both recyclable and non-recyclable waste
•
To decrease the cost incurred in garbage collection by people living in urban areas by use
of proper disposal systems
Customers and stakeholders
The homeowners, real estate agents, and environmental agencies will be the stakeholders
while at the same time the inhabitants of these areas will be the customers.
Key milestones
The project will consider some milestones like cooperating with the inhabitants to get the
cleaning workforce; some investors may back out due to low returns from the project, resistance
from the thugs and lastly, overlapping of projects causing lack of coordination (Wilson, Velis, &
Cheeseman, 2006).
The timelines for the project
The first step is to begin the project by creating awareness to members of the community.
The second step is to recruit the cleaning team including willing investors and inhabitants. The
third step is cleaning process taking place. The fourth step is to recycle the recyclable waste and
lastly is to create a proper system for collecting garbage.
The cost of the project
RECYCLING PROJECT
4
The project will cost around $12000 which shall cater for all processes taking place in the
above steps.
Key challenge and recommendations
The critical challenge facing the process is lack of funds to support the system in garbage
collection. Therefore, I can recommend that the government should allocate some funds to assist
in garbage collection and recycling.
