Introduction
In the traditional organizational setting, most of all the activities carried out daily were
based on manual systems. However, with the introduction of computers, much of the respective
organizational business tasks are conducted on an automatic basis. Primarily, regardless of the
presentation and the incorporation of networks within organizations, the most crucial part of the
interaction between the users and the systems has neglected. It has established that the user
interface design of any given computer system plays a huge role in either encouraging or
discouraging a given personnel in performing the desired tasks. Additionally, no user would
want to be interacting with a computer interface that is boring, nagging and even in most cases,
unattractive (Jacko, 2012). The basis for this report is the discussion of the desired features that a
given user interface should exhibit. The design of the most appropriate user interface is the first
step in achieving organizational success as far as the interaction between users and the existing
computer programs are concerned.
Description of the organization
In this paper, the organization that is going to address is the Kiambu District Hospital.
The mentioned firm can conclude to be a healthcare facility that deals with various kinds of
patients daily. The hospital has estimated to have built on a 3-acre piece of land with various
departments each with its respective offices within the premises. Furthermore, the hospital has
reported having an estimated population of 500 healthcare workers not including the individual
support staff. This figure shows that the healthcare facility is enormous.

Although the hospital currently has the respective computer systems that used in the
individual offices, the need to install a computerized stand where all the patients, visitors and the
other members of the public who may need to visit the facility and book their respective
appointments have realized. It then follows that the most effective user interface would be placed
strategically just after the primary entrance of the hospital. Hence, the kind of data that is
expected to be captured by the mentioned user interface may include but not limited to the type
of visitors who may consist of either a patient or any other person, the date of visit and the
necessary information about the visitor. While in most cases such user interfaces may not request
the visitor to input all their details, a hospital-based system may require the person at hand to key
in some of the personal information while the rest retrieved on the screen.
The mentioned data may be collected and stored in the hospital`s databases. However, it
is essential to understand the primary use of the data. First, when a patient admits at the hospital,
one is required to select the desired area of the visit which may include the various healthcare
departments or even an appointment with a doctor. After choosing the unit or the appointed
doctor, the patient then receives a receipt that shows the directions to the selected area of interest
and the total waiting number. When such information captured, the hospital is then able to
produce customized reports on every individual depending on the number of visits or the needs
that may have driven them to the hospital. On the same note, the data collected is useful in
predicting the nature of illnesses that the given area may have based on the current patient
records. (Matas, 2010)
Definition of the UI design
From the mentioned user interface, the joint may not request the user to input a lot of
information. As a matter of fact, the primary features of the system are based on menu selections

and tapping on-screen buttons (Matas, 2010). In rare cases, a patient may be required to key in
some personal details for easy identification. To select the most appropriate service needed by a
visitor, the user interface must have elements such as drop-down menus, primary menus, onscreen buttons, a responsive voice assistant service, an on-screen keyboard and text fields.
Accordingly, for the system to capture data in different languages, an on-screen language
selection should be available which for easy identification is to be represented in a flag design
(Bi, Smith & Zhai, 2012). The orientation of the on-screen keyboard and the active voice
assistance is to be designed to incorporate all the languages. Ultimately, a multilingual desired
feature within the user interfaces to automatically translate the content of a page when a user
selects a different language.
Conclusion
In summary, given these points, the design of a user interface should be based on the
desired features that can be a user-friendly and easy to access. While most organizations have
failed to implement some of the minor details that play a huge role in the overall user interaction,
it has concluded that failure to include these elements may lead to reduced profit margins.
Subsequently, a user may not necessarily be required to select hundreds of options before
booking the desired option. Simplicity, responsiveness and attractiveness are some of the
physical features that ought to include within any user interface for easy and efficient
interactions between the systems and the clients/customers.
