User Interface Testing

For this assignment, you will be conducting the usability test utilizing the usability questionnaire that you developed in Week 3. First, you will need to select 4–5 testers. Craft a Usability Test Instruction Guide that contains all of the tourist user interface prototype screens that you created in week 2. Also, include a disclaimer that the participants’ identities and participation will not be shared with a third-party organization. Send it to the testers, via e-mail, along with the usability questionnaire. Please request that they return the questionnaire in 4–5 days so that you have time to tally the results before this assignment is due. Thank them for their participation. You may want to engage some of your classmates and your professor as potential testers as they understand the time constraint. To tally the results, you will need to aggregate the following:Compute the average for each of the usability questions in section 2 and present it in a results spreadsheet. Include a couple of analysis statements discussing the results. What changes will you make based on these results? Compute the average for each of the function questions in section 3 and present them in the same results spreadsheet. Include a couple of analysis statements discussing the results. What changes will you make based on these results? Evaluate the demographics to see if that had an impact on individual results. Summarize the comments at the bottom of the usability questionnaire and discuss changes you will make to the prototype design based on this feedback. here’s my comment by my teacher: Just need to add to the mock-ups, describe some of your UI choices, and navigation details. Additional comments: For this assignment, you were to develop a prototype mock-up for both kiosk display screens and smart phone display screens, as well as include a narrative to explain how you would navigate each of the prototype options. You could use a low-fidelity approach to prototyping these mock-ups, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Visio, or another storyboarding type tool, or even hand-draw them and scan them, and copy and paste your mock-ups into your design document. You were to include a mock-up for the main menu for the Tourist Information Application and a lower-level menu mock-up for each item on the main menu. This means if you have six menu options on the main menu, you should include a total of 14 mock-ups, one set (i.e., main menu and one for each sub-menu) for the kiosk and one for the smart phone. You should clearly identify what each mock-up represents. You should also address the following: Banner heading, menus and options, graphics, items you want to hotlink to other pages, fill-inform layouts, logo that can go in banner heading or as the backdrop, specify the font and color you intend to use throughout application, and identify any other options that you want to appear on every page. Even if you include all of these in the mock-up, you should clearly state these elements have been addressed. My comments are directed at whether you met the requirements of the assignment and not at the actual design since you will get feedback on the design when you conduct the usability study in week 4Deliverables:The following are the project deliverables:Update the design document title page with a new date and project name. Update the previously completed sections based on your instructor’s feedback. Complete the new content below and copy it under the section in the User Interface Usability Design document called Usability Test Results. Include the following new content: Usability Test Instruction Guide Create instructions on how to walk through the low-fidelity prototype screens that should be copied in this guide. Include a disclaimer that their identity and participation will not be released to anyone. Include the deadline of 4–5 days and thank them for their participation. Usability Test Results Create a table with averages for each question in section 2 with an evaluation of the results. Create a table with averages for each question in section 3 with an evaluation of the results. Include the demographic impact analysis. Include a comment recommendations summary. Be sure to update your table of contents before submission

Project Outline
The project aims at designing a software system in an attractive tourist city. The system
will help the visitors to access various kind of information as well as support from the authority
of the attraction site. For example, an English-speaking person visiting a tourist attraction site in
another country that doesn’t speak English. He or she will use the system to access various
services such as a request for a tour guide.
The city that I will concentrate on is Piazza del Campo, which is the Center of History in
Siena, Italy. It holds a large public space which dominating the Siena’s historic center. It presents
the beautiful and unique medieval squares with a red paving of brick, clam design of shells, and
a wide area. The piazza has nine divisions of pie-shaped wedges, all radiating out from the
square’s lowest point that is at the face of the Town Hall, referred to as Palazzo Pubblico. It is
surrounded by precious public buildings, residences, and cafes’ that are attractive to many
visiting tourists and the locals in the area.
Various major categories for the interface of the user will be supported. They will include
firstly, graphical user interface accepting the input via a computer mouse and a keyboard.
Secondly, touchscreen interface displays accepting inputs through a touch of the stylus or a
finger. Thirdly, conversational interfaces enabling the user to direct the computer using plain text
and voice commands rather than graphical elements. Fourthly, gesture interface accepting input
in the form of mouse or hand gestures.
The system is intended even to support people with disabilities. The gesture interface will
take care of those with hearing impairment. Conversational support means will help people with
visual impairment. Others with disabilities, for example, missing fingers can use the graphical
user or the touchscreen interfaces.

User Interface Technical Requirements
There are many technical requirements for the kiosk. Input devises to support the
interaction capabilities will include a computer mouse, a keyboard, a voice receptive control
device, a stylus for touching purposes, and a touchscreen. For easy application by the users, a
standard keyboard will be used. The voice control should be able to capture sounds appropriately
to reduce the probability of error. The touchscreen should be having a display length of twentyfour inches for more comfortable use by all the visitors.
The technical requirements of the application for the smartphone will be in a such a way
that they will provide familiarity, clarity, aesthetics, responsiveness, concision, efficiency, and
forgiveness. All these are aimed at making it easier for the user to use the applications without
the need of consulting even if it is for their first time. The twenty-four inches for the screen
display will be large enough to accommodate enough applications thus reducing the number of
pages required house them.
The system will be designed such that it will be suitable for efficient and effective
completion of the intended work. There will be an enhancement of the controllability qualities
for easy employment of different pace and direction during use. Tolerance of error for the input
devices will be enhanced to achieve the intended purpose using minimal actions. Selfdescriptiveness will also be improved to make sure that all needed steps are comprehensible by
the feedback from the system. The system will guide and support the user for learning purposes.
Consistency and correspondents of the characteristics of users will help with the conformity of
user expectations.
By the use of the capabilities of interactions above, potential disability cases will be
catered for by the system. Visual, hearing or any physically impaired visitor will be able to use

the applications at his or her convenience. This means inclusivity of all people is adhered to and
thus encouraging its use. It will, therefore, support satisfaction, efficiency, and effectiveness for
the good of the user.
User Interface Human Interaction
The users will communicate with the user interface of kiosk through various means. They
will include the environment of the machine, for example, the room housing the computer.
Secondly, there is task environment which represents the goals and conditions that are set for the
user. Thirdly, there are areas of the interface. Non-pertaining interaction of the computer and
human are contained in processes in non-overlapping areas. On the other hand, processes about
interactions of human and computer will be contained in overlapping areas. Fourthly, the input
flow enables easy movement of information from task environment. Finally, the output that
enables generation of information from the machine environment towards the screen to be
interpreted by the user.
The users will interact with the user interface of the smartphone though, firstly visual
means. This fact is the most widespread area of human-computer interaction. Secondly, Audio
means will also enable transfer of information from the user to the system. Thirdly, sign
sensitivity means to enable the people with hearing impairment to access the services just like
the others. Finally, the smartphone will have a system enabling transfer of the feedback to the
screen for the user to interpret.

Developing Prototypes is not just easy, but rather, it needs more knowledge to perform an
effective interaction to everyone towards automotive system which is Kiosk. In this process, it is
important to set up all the instructions or steps to form the kiosk screens, in which, this project
will have to conduct.
User Interface Design Mockups
In developing the design of User Interface Design Mockups, I have used the method of
PowerPoint in order for having a low-fidelity mock-up of my designs.
