Due to changes in government regulations it is required that Program Coordinators have a Bachelor’s Degree in an early childhood area. As a Program Coordinator I am responsible for the daily operations of 6 Head Start centers. I supervise the teaching staff and partner with parents and staff in accordance with program standards and requirements including all applicable state and federal guidelines.Two reasons I need to understand about speech disabilities are to help my teachers with the procedures for speech referrals and connect them with who they need to contact for further evaluation. Another reason is to assess and observe the child myself to help my teachers decide whether they feel it’s developmentally needed and help them to understand the definitions of speech delays. Language consists of several subsystems that have to do with sound, meaning, overall structure, and everyday use. Language development entails mastering each of these aspects and combining them into a flexible communication system (Berk, L. E. 2013).An idea I will use from the articles I have read is by providing parents and teachers with the Milestones of Language Development.
