Many people have misconceptions about medieval times and chivalry. While books and movies
do their best to interpret the two, they don?t always get it right. Chivalry is a word that isn?t used to often
anymore. You see and hear about it in movies but how much do you really know about chivalry? The
code of chivalry came to be between the years 1170 and 1220 in France. The term ?chivalry? comes
from the French word ?chevalier? which translates to ?knight?, who?s name comes from cheval or horse.
Chivalry was the code of the knights. Chivalric code is based on courtesy and honor. It may be an old
code, but it is still somewhat alive today. An example would be holding open the door for a woman.
The life of a knight meant absolute loyalty to the king. They were to be fearless and brave, but
also show courtesy and generosity. Becoming a knight wasn?t a walk in the park. Training to become a
