Arlington Virginia has estimated population of 230, 050 people according to the
2010 census report, indicating growth rate of 0.94%. The reason why I chose Arlington for my
business venture of opening a fitness center is because according to research the area has 17.50%
of its population affected with obesity, a10.10% adult smoking rate and 18.70% excessive
drinking rate, hence this area has people living with many lifestyle issues within the society
(Areavibes.com, 2018).
Demographics
According to (Areavibes.com, 2018), Arlington has a total population of
207,627. Of this population, 15% of the population is whites, 9% hispanic, 8% African American
and 5% other races. The percentage of male population in the area is 51%, with 2,300 of the
male aged 12-18 years. Women make up 41% of the population, and 4000 of the female
population is made up of teenagers aged 12-18. Also it is important to note that Arlington has
over 65% of its people married with kids while 35% are single (Smith and Cody, 2013). This
information on family is important when understanding demographics of Arlington in order to
know the family trends in this town.
The level of education in this region is 90% as the area record a total of 94% of
people aged 12 to 24 as high school graduates (Bestplaces.net, 2018). For example areas such as
Falls Church have a higher rating of 98% of its teenagers to have graduated from high school.
Being one of the most populated areas Arlington Virginia recorded an unemployment rate of

3.90%, job growth 1.12% and future growth was predicted to be 38.34% as of the year 2017. As
a result the area record household income of $53,055 monthly and median per capita of $25,236.
All this statistics are important in starting my finesses club as they help in predicting the
expected number of people and also estimate the target group. Also the financial information of
the people in this area is important as it enables easy formulation of the gym fee and membership
fees.
Health issues:
This paper proposes two major health issues that youths in Arlington face with
the aim of establishing a suitable environment in which such individuals can be helped in
reconstructing their lifestyle into a healthy lifestyle. One major issue is obesity among
adolescents. From research done by Gallup-Healthways Well-being index which is responsible
for tracking obesity levels in America, the findings indicated that Arlington County has
increasing levels of adolescents with obesity 17.50% in 2015 due to the fact that almost 15% of
the adolescents are very inactive (Chang, 2010). The same research also indicated that 13.90%
adolescents, 13.90% smoke Marijuana or Tobacco which is a threat to their health. By having a
fitness center which provides both group and individual personal training to the obese
adolescents, this will provide an avenue in which many can join the gym and start training to
boost their fitness level as well as their health. Also the percentage of adolescents who are
struggling with smoking in this region can join the fitness center, where they learn to be active
and learn various nutritional plans and adjustments of their lifestyle.

Adolescent obesity has been a threat that many countries try to fight today. with
the increased awareness on readjusting our lifestyles in order to be able to avoid obesity and
other lifestyle related illnesses it has been a common routine to meet many young adults early in
the morning running around the pavements. If this fitness center will be located at Arlington city,
I estimate a turnaround of at least 100 regular clients every day. Hence this may lead to a total of
around 400 clients on a monthly basis both regular and those who come on and off. This
numbers are estimated based on the fact that many teenagers want to look good and watch their
weight, as a result an introduction of anew gym in the area will most definitely attract many
young people into the gym making this project viable as the benefits will be higher than the cost
of starting the gym.
Establish customer/membership fees and special packages:
In order to ensure effective running of the gym, members of these gym will have
two types of customers those who come in any day for example once a week, this group will be
paying $20 per day for the services offered to them on that day and the second group is the
regular members. This are those individuals that will be coming into the gym on a monthly basis
and the payment for one full month will be $100. The members who come on a monthly basis
will have three membership categories to choose from; first is the monthly package that goes for
$100, then there will be the quarterly package of payment which will be $250 and the annual
package which will be set at $700 annually (“Fitness Center Membership Fees”, 2018).
Also in addition to the monthly, quarterly and annual membership, the gym will also provide
clients with another package that is suitable for family whereby if a person enrolls at least three
of their family members they will pay a monthly fee of $ 250 saving $50 every month, $500
